Eels
By Vickie Chao

1     If you find snakes creepy, you can probably say the same about eels. To a certain extent, the two animals look and behave alike. For example, they both have long bodies. And they both are very good hunters. But in the case of eels, there are quite a few imposters that get mixed in with the real ones. The most famous example is perhaps the electric eel.

2     To tell whether an eel-like animal is a true eel or not, we can check if it has teeth. A true eel has sharp teeth, but a phony like the electric eel does not. Also, a true eel spends at least part of its life in the oceans. Even if it happens to call a river or a lake its home, it always travels to an open sea to breed.

3     Like the electric eel, the wolf eel and the spiny eel are not true eels.
