Easter Hunt
By Beth Beutler

The clouds were bright and puffy against an eggshell blue sky. A bed of tulips stretched across the green lawn. Streaks of sunshine burst onto the living room floor. What a beautiful Easter morning!

Easter was almost as much fun as Christmas at the Browning household. In fact, it was sometimes more fun. Mr. & Mrs. Browning made sure there was a great air of celebration, with games, baskets, and treats.

It was the first day the girls could wear their new spring dresses. They would even wear hats. Normally, they wore school clothes to church. But they were treated to a new dress every Easter. Molly's was pink with lace trim. She had a white straw hat and white leather shoes to match. Her sister Meg wore a flower-print dress with a long skirt. Mrs. Browning always dressed up, too. She curled her hair and wore a little make up. The girls loved to see how Mr. Browning looked at her with love especially when she was all dressed up.

"Ready, girls?" Mr. Browning asked. It seemed he enjoyed being the only man in the house!

They got into the car, which had been rigorously cleaned on Saturday. Dad had even waxed it.

When they arrived at church, the family greeted their many friends, and the kids went off to children's church to be taught values of hope, love, and faith.

After the service, the children gathered in the church yard for an egg hunt. The adults had hidden more than 100 plastic eggs. The woman in charge blew a whistle, and the kids were off. Meg and Molly took their egg hunting very seriously.

They got so serious that when they found a purple plastic egg at the base of the tree, they both grabbed it at once.
