1     Kerry's dog died today. His name was Cody. Cody was a fourteen-year-old golden retriever who had been in the family since Kerry was born. She felt a huge loss.
 
2     Matthew's grandfather died last month. He had been sick for so long, but Matthew still couldn't believe he was gone.
 
3     The divorce of Ellen's parents became final last week. Her parents were trying to help her through this, but Ellen didn't believe that they could possibly understand how she was feeling.
