1     Caroline was having severe joint pain and swelling. Her regular doctor referred her to a specialist. She was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. What kind of specialist did she see? She saw a rheumatologist.
 
2     Marlene was diagnosed with spondylitis. Because this disease can change over time, she needed someone special to monitor her condition. Who managed her care? A rheumatologist did.
 
3     Frank was a ninety-year old man. He was having pain and stiffness in his hips and knees as a result of the wear and tear of ageing. Who was in charge of his treatment? A rheumatologist was.
 
4     Rheumatology is a specialized medical field. It deals with many different disorders related to inflammation or the degeneration of connective tissue and joints. The field's name comes from the Greek word rheuma, which means inflamed.
