Odor Be Gone
By Brenda B. Covert

1     Someone once said, "Horses sweat, men perspire, and women merely glow." Doesn't that sound lovely? It's too bad that it's not true. It may sound gross, but we all sweat. Sometimes we don't smell good, either! Sweating is nature's way to cool our bodies. According to some experts, the average person sweats about three pints of liquid every day. It's a good thing that sweating is a slow process that goes on all day; otherwise, we would be walking around in soggy shoes!

2     There are sweat glands all over your body. Most of the glands produce watery sweat that has no odor. The glands located in your armpit and groin produce a different type of sweat. That sweat contains fatty acids and other substances. Bacteria eat those substances and multiply. The bacteria are the source of body odor.

3     Bathing daily will rid your skin of the odor-causing bacteria. It's a good start, but bathing alone isn't enough to help you smell fresh all day. You can avoid odor as well as damp spots under your arms by using an antiperspirant every morning. Antiperspirants are for keeping your pores from leaking sweat. On the other hand, deodorants don't prevent sweat, but they do mask bad odors. There are also combo products that attempt to both prevent sweat and also cover the odor of any sweat that escapes. These products come in solid sticks, liquid roll-ons, and sprays.
