Manners in the Home
By Beth A. Beutler

"Claudia, get out of my room!" Clarice screamed, looking up from her high school yearbook. Sometimes Claudia really got on her nerves. She just walked right into Clarice's room without knocking, helped herself to Clarice's clothes, interrupted her while she was on the phone, and generally made a nuisance of herself.

"What's the big deal?" Claudia retorted. "You know I always borrow your clothes on Fridays. That's the day when we don't have to wear our uniforms." Claudia attended a private junior high school that required uniforms.

"I know that, but just once I wish you would not just walk into my room without knocking!"

"Afraid I'm going to hear some private conversation, like when you talk about Jason?"

     Clarice growled. "GET OUT!"

Claudia stuck her tongue out at her sister and strutted out of the room.

"And leave that sweater here!" Clarice shouted.

Claudia threw the sweater on Clarice's bed with a "Fine. If that's the way you want it. I don't need your stupid sweater." Claudia slammed the door behind her.

Clarice sighed. Sisters could be such a pain sometimes.

About 15 minutes later, Mom called up the stairs. "Dinner will be served in 5 minutes, girls." Clarice was absorbed in the novel she was reading and didn't respond.

"Aren't you coming?" Claudia asked, stopping in the doorway.

     "I'll be there eventually."
