¹     Do you live in a small town? Or do you live in a big city? People in big cities can ride on the subway. This subway is not a sandwich! This subway is like a train. It runs mostly underground.
 
²     London, England was the first city in the world with subways. When the first line opened in 1863, people loved it right away! At the time, it used steam to run subway cars. Later on, it switched to use electricity. Today, London's subway has twelve different lines or routes. People in London don't call it a subway. They call it the "tube" or the "underground."
 
³     In the United States, Boston was the first city to have a subway. It was built in 1897. People there call it the "T."
