Post Office Workers
By Phyllis Naegeli

1     Through "rain or snow or sleet or hail," postal workers bring the mail. Have you heard this before? A postal worker's job is to deliver mail. When you write a letter, how does it get to the right place?

2     A letter goes in an envelope. It needs an address. It needs a zip code. This is a special number for the post office. It helps the post office know where to send the mail. A letter also needs a stamp. This shows you paid to send it. Now it is ready. The letter goes in a mailbox. It may be at your house. It may be at the post office. A letter carrier gets all the mail in the box. They take it to the local post office.

3     At the post office, mail is sorted and marked. The mark shows the name of the post office. It also marks the stamp. Now the stamp can't be used again. Machines help do this work.
