¹     "Thump, thump, thump." The hat heard the rhythm of steps hitting the dock. He saw a fisherman and a small boy walking toward him from the far end of the pier. He hoped they would not step on him! It had been exciting to ride on the nose of a dolphin, but landing with a thud on the fishing pier had been rather uncomfortable. Those boards were a lot harder than the flowing waters of the ocean, but at least now he was dry. However, he did not want to get stepped on!
 
²     "Hey, Dad, look," said the boy.
 
³     "What, son?"
 
⁴     "Somebody lost a hat. What does it say?"
 
⁵     They came closer to the hat. "It says, ï¿˝Fly Fishing Is Fun,'" the father answered his son.
 
⁶     "I bet someone is mad about losing it. I wonder if it was a man or a lady?"
 
⁷     "I wonder, too," answered his dad. "A lot of men like to fish, but there are also some women who like fishing and are excellent at it. Your mom can hold her own with a fly rod."
 
⁸     "Can I keep this hat?" the boy asked.
 
⁹     The dad thought for a moment. The hat did not look too dirty. "I suppose," he said. "Just don't put it on until we get home and wash it."
