Terrorists are Big Bullies
By Brenda B. Covert

1     Terrorists. The root of the word is terror. Terrorists wish to instill fear in us. Like a schoolyard bully, terrorists use threats and violence to try to get what they want. You may know at least one bully. There may be someone in your home who scares you for fun or who beats you to force you to do as you're told. There may be a person on your street that you avoid by ducking behind a tree or a doorway. There may be bullies in your school who want your money or your shoes and will slam you against a wall to get them.

2     What is the difference between a terrorist and a bully? The bully has limited access to you. He can't be at your home, in the street, and in school all at the same time. He can't get to you if you aren't where he is.

3     Terrorists spread out and cover a wider area. They are sneaky. They use the media (radio, TV, Internet) to burst into our homes and businesses. They can threaten a whole nation with a beat down, not just a few students in a single school.
