The ABCs of Finding Information

1     You ask your teacher a question. What does she tell you? "Look it up!" There are a lot of places to look for information. There are books, phone books, encyclopedias, and dictionaries.
 
2     Usually, words in these books are arranged in alphabetical order. You know the ABCs. But do you know how to use them to help you find what you are looking for? There are a few easy rules to follow.
 
3     The first rule is that words are put in alphabetical order by their first letters. For example, dog will come before egg. D comes before E in the alphabet.
