What's in a Magazine?
By Patti Hutchison

1     Think of a subject you'd like to know more about. Chances are there is a magazine written about that subject. Glamour gives tips on fashion and make up. Time reports news from around the world. There are even magazines about walking!

2     Magazines are full of information. Let's start with the cover. The cover of a magazine is very colorful. There are pictures to catch your eye. Titles or subjects of some of the articles are written on the cover. Of course, the name of the magazine is there. The cover also tells the price and the date it was published.

3     Some magazines are published every week. These include news magazines such as Time and Newsweek. They have to keep up with what is going on in the world. Other magazines are published every month or only a few times a year.

4     Magazines include articles on many subjects. Some are "how-to" articles. They give you tips on how to do something. They include cooking, gardening, and craft magazines, to name just a few. Experts write the articles on those subjects. They help teach you how to do things they know how to do well.
