Suzette Goes to Mardi Gras
By Joyce Furstenau

1     Suzette smiled as she looked in the mirror. She had on a fluffy ballerina dress. She had a sparkly crown on her head. She was dressed up for her first New Orleans Mardi Gras parade.

2     "When are we leaving?" Suzette asked.

3     "Everyone is ready. Let's go!" said her mother. "Do you have your bead bag?"

4     "Yes, it's right here," answered Suzette as she held up a large canvas bag.

5     Suzette's family scrambled to get into the car. They were all wearing funny costumes. Her brother Mark was wearing a clown suit. His face was painted white, and he had a big red smile painted over his mouth. Her parents were dressed as bees. They wore yellow and black striped costumes and headbands that had wiggly things attached. Everyone had a canvas bead bag.
