Introductions and Greetings
By Patti Hutchison

It's your first day at your new job. How exciting! You are going to meet a lot of new people. You need to know how to introduce yourself to them.

When you meet someone for the first time, you should always introduce yourself. It is a polite thing to do. It shows people you are interested in them. It also shows that you are friendly.

When you introduce yourself, you tell someone your name. You also learn their name. This helps you get to know people. It is helpful to know the people you are working with.

Read about how Mary introduced herself to her new co-workers.

Mary walked into the office for the first time. There was a woman standing at the counter. "Hello, my name is Mary Jones," she said. "I'm the new file clerk." She held out her hand for a handshake.

The woman shook Mary's hand. "It's nice to meet you, Mary. I'm Sue Edwards. I do the bookkeeping here."

Mary said, "It's nice to meet you, Sue."

A little while later, a man walked into the office. He walked up to Mary and put out his hand. "Hi, I'm Mike Slater. I'm the manager of the sporting goods department."

"It's nice to meet you," Mary said, shaking Mike's hand. "I'm Mary, the new file clerk."
