Cleaning the Living Room
By Cathy Pearl

1     Ben got up this morning and looked around his house. He thought that the living room was a mess. There were dirty dishes, clean clothes, and dust everywhere. The worst part was that his parents were coming to visit this weekend. He couldn't let them into the house with it looking like this. There was only one thing to do. He would have to clean the living room.

2     Ben started with the clean laundry that was sitting in the chair. He had taken it out of the dryer, but he hadn't folded it. Now it was wrinkled, and being lazy just meant more work because he would have to iron the clothes. But for now, he just wanted to get them put away. Quickly, he folded the pile and took it to his bedroom. Shirts went into the top drawer and pants into the bottom. The ironing would have to wait until later. He didn't have time to do it now.

3     Quickly, he went back into the living room. Next came the dirty dishes. He was thankful there wasn't any dried food on them. Ben stacked the plates into a pile and carried them to the sink. He then went back and picked up all the glasses. After putting everything next to the sink, he filled it with hot water. Then he put the glasses in to soak. He could do the dishes after he was done in the living room.

4     Ben took one look at the curtains and took them down. He put one load in the washer and put the rest on the floor. He would wash those after the first load was in the dryer. When they were done, he would take them out of the dryer right away and hang them up. This would keep them from getting wrinkled.
