Tool Safety
By Cathy Pearl

1     If you live in a house or apartment, you are going to need tools. It is very hard to get a nail in a wall without a hammer. A knife works in a pinch to unscrew a screw, but a screwdriver will work much better. Remember to follow simple tips to keep yourself safe.

2     In 1998, 40,000 people were injured using a hammer. Most of the time this was from not using the hammer like it should be used.

3     Use the correct hammer for the job. You won't need the heaviest hammer in the store to get a nail through a wall. Most medium size hammers will be good for doing jobs around the house.

4     Safety glasses are needed whenever you use any tool. These glasses keep your eyes safe. When using a hammer, it is very easy for pieces of what you are working on to fly off. These pieces could easily get into an eye and cause damage. There are many kinds of safety glasses out there today. Shop around and find a pair that is comfortable on your face.
