A Walk Through the Dunes

1     "We're here! We're here!" shouted Jenny, gazing out the window as Dad pulled into the beach parking area.
 
2     "It looks like a lot of people had the same idea as we did," said Mom, looking around at all the cars in the parking lot.
 
3     "I guess so," said Jenny with concern in her voice. "Do you think we'll find a place to park?"
 
4     "I hope so. Let's see if there are some places at the back of the lot," said Dad.
 
5     Dad steered the car around a corner and drove to the back of the parking lot. After a few minutes, he found a parking spot and pulled the car in. He turned off the key and unlocked the doors. "Everybody out!" he commanded, opening his door and stepping out onto the pavement.
 
6     Jenny stepped out of the car next. "Whew, it's hot."
 
7     "It sure is," said Mom as she joined them in the hot sun. "But it feels like there's a nice breeze."
 
8     Dad agreed with Mom as he opened the trunk of the car. He pulled out a bag full of beach towels, a picnic basket, a beach umbrella, three beach chairs, and a pail with a shovel. He set the items down one by one. "Let's see if we can get this all in one trip," he said. "It looks like we'll have a good walk before we get to the beach."
 
9     Jenny picked up a chair and the pail and shovel. Mom grabbed the picnic basket and a chair. This left Dad with the towels, umbrella, and a chair, which he easily managed.
 
10     "Okay, let's go to the beach!" he said, and the family began the trek through the parking lot.
 
11     It was a hot walk through the parking lot, but soon they came to a boardwalk that led to the beach. On either side of it were sand dunes surrounded by a fence and posted with signs that read "Keep Off the Dunes."
 
12     A puzzled look crossed Jenny's face. "I don't remember these fences and signs," she began. "Why do we have to keep off the sand dunes?"
