FBI Agent
By Phyllis Naegeli

1     Imagine you picked up the newspaper this morning and the headline read, "Man Holds Up Local Bank at Gunpoint." What would you think after reading this story? Would you wonder how they will they catch the thief or about how the authorities will find out who he is? Do you know who is in charge of investigating such a crime?

2     It's the FBI. Soon after the robbery, the local police arrived at the scene. The bank was closed. Yellow tape was placed around the building. The FBI was called. Agents are on the way. Soon an agent arrives. He or she begins asking the bank employees questions. What did the robber look like? What happened? How much money did the thief take? Did anyone see which way the robber went? Was there a get-away vehicle? All of this information is written down as evidence.

3     More agents from the FBI arrive. These special agents come to the scene to collect physical evidence. They look for fingerprints. They look for things the robber left behind. They look at the video from a surveillance camera in the bank. One agent finds a slip of paper on the floor where the robber stood. Outside, another agent discovers a key. What will these items tell the investigators? How will they study them to find out about the robber?
