Thomas Jefferson
By Cathy Pearl

1     Many men helped our country grow. One of these men was Thomas Jefferson. He became a very important man. He did many things for America. These things helped it become what it is today.

2     Jefferson was born in 1743. He was the third child. His mom's family was important. They were one of the first to live in Virginia. His dad owned a lot of land. He died when Jefferson was 14. He got 5,000 acres of land when he died.

3     Jefferson would build a large home called Monticello on this land. It would take a long time to finish. It was done enough to move in with his wife when he was married. He married Martha Skelton in 1774. They would have six children. Only two children would live to be adults.
