¹     "These are really good," said Jody as she took the last bite of her brownie. She picked up her glass of milk and took a big gulp.
 
²     "Thank you," said Mom. "I thought you might enjoy them. Are you ready to get back to the sports?"
 
³     Jody got up from her seat. She picked up her glass and plate and put them in the sink. "I'm ready!"
 
⁴     "Then let's look at cross-country skiing," said Mom.
 
⁵     Jody and Mom walked back to the office. Mom sat down at the computer to get some more information.
 
⁶     "If I cross-country ski, do I have to go to the top of a mountain?" Jody asked.
 
⁷     "No, you stay on the ground," Mom said in a reassuring tone. "A few different events involve cross-country skiing. One of them is called the biathlon. In this event, you would wear Nordic skis and race along a course. Then you would shoot at targets. The sport combines skiing with marksmanship."
 
⁸     "I don't like guns," said Jody with a frown. "What other cross-country events are there?"
 
⁹     "The other events are just racing," said Mom. "You would ski along courses of different lengths."
