My International Adventure
By Barb Bickel

1     It was Sunday morning, and I woke up bright and early. This was going to be a great day. My parents were going to take me to music camp at the International Peace Garden. I was going to be away from home for a whole week and would be living in a dorm with lots of other kids my age. We were going to be learning how to play our musical instruments better. My friends had been telling me how much fun they had at this camp, and now it was finally my turn to be able to go.

2     My suitcase was packed, and my trumpet was all shined up. We were all sitting in the car waiting for my mom to come out of the house so that we could leave. Finally, she was ready and came out to get into the car. My dad drove out of the driveway and down the road. We were going to go to Dunseith and then north into the Turtle Mountains. The International Peace Garden is a huge flower garden with over 150,000 flowers in it that makes a border between the United States and Canada and is a symbol of the peace between these two countries. Sometimes North Dakota is called the Peace Garden State because of this beautiful garden.
