1     A Kentucky Colonel is the highest honor given to a person by the governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. No other state governor can make anyone a Kentucky Colonel. These individuals serve as goodwill ambassadors for the state. They are honored with this title for their outstanding contributions to community service.
 
2     World leaders such as President Lyndon Johnson and Prime Minister Winston Churchill as well as everyday citizens throughout the state and beyond have been bestowed with this distinguished award.
