World Teacher Day

October 5 is World Teacher Day. This internationally observed day is designed to honor educators for the vital role they play in the lives of students of all ages. Originally started by the United Nations in 1994, the goal of World Teacher Day is to appreciate teachers, assess the current state of education, and improve upon it.
Some professional organizations offer conferences or training on this day. Others host celebrations and encourage citizens to express appreciation to the teachers in their community. More than 100 nations participate in this day. While education varies greatly from country to country, teachers around the world are all helping to inspire global citizens. The work they do within the four walls of their classroom is helping to train the men and women whose life choices will impact the world. Therefore, it is important that as a global community, we collectively take the time to honor and revere the crucial work that all educators do.
